Here's John and Eric starting out; all bright eyed and full of life, ready to experience the good old USA!
I'm taking my turn to drive a 3 hour shift. Everywhere we look we see reminders of our dogs back home. But no dogs are allowed on the National Park island of Isle Royale (it's an international biosphere) so they are only with us in spirit.
Whoops! Looks like we lost one already! The next photo is of the boys posing with this Gorilla at a gas station in Tennessee. They didn't want to do it, I had to bribe them with buying gum! Then I was called a cruel Mother! I guess they are too old for this sort of posing stuff! Let this be known as the LAST "posing with a fiberglass animal" photo ever to be taken again of the Autry boys! Just for fun, to keep us occupied, we kept track of all of the fiberglass animals we saw on the entire trip. These seemed to be a quirky countryside phenomenon and sometimes completely unrelated to the businesses that they were located at. In total, we saw 8 deer, 5 horses, 4 cows, 2 moose, a bear, a gorilla, an elephant, a giraffe, a chicken, a dragon, a bull, 2 Santas, 2 kip's big boys, and 2 over sized soft serve ice cream cones. Warning; driving long distances will cause you to resort to some rather odd entertainment.

Goodness, over 2000 miles! That's got to be some sort of endurance record :)Glad you are home safe and sound.
The boys are so handsome-more pictures, please!
And George still tries to make me pose with fiberglass animals-I don't get gum out of the deal, either!
All I want to know is, did you make it back in time to see USA beat Mexico? What an exciting game.
Glad you guys are back. Were's John, did you leave him there?
P.S.
I won the Bugg mile . . . not! We were all to worn out from the park to race.
What!? Didn't run the race?! Aaargh! That may be just the incentive for us to show up next year! Who has the trophy?
And...all of my boys were go-kart riding when the big game was on. They talked about it earlier in the day and then got side tracked when the time came. John did see highlights when we got home though, GO USA!
If John was not driving in the photos then rest assured he was snoring in the passenger seat :)
Wow, That looks like a very fun trip! David and I love road trips. We had a blast driving up here from Texas. That's too bad that they have decided they are too old to pose with the fiberglass figures. I'd love to see some. I guess boys will be boys. =P They look like they had a good time. I see smiles. =) What other type of games do you guys play on long trips?
Well there's always..."think of an object and the first one in the car to spy the object outside somewhere along the way wins"...or...our family favorite..."announce the mileage to be driven that day, the approximate time MAPS says it should take you and everyone tries to calculate what time to the minute that they think we will arrive. You have to take into consideration stops, lunches, traffic etc. I stink at that game. I lost every leg of the trip this time.
