CAMPING STORIES

Our family loves to camp. As you can imagine, after visiting almost 50 state parks for camping, hiking or canoeing; we've had some pretty diverse experiences. Experiences that range from the GOOD, the BAD to the UGLY! You may wonder, what sparks our interest in camping? I think that it is a deep desire to "Play house". Remember in Kindergarten class how much fun it was to cook and clean in the play kitchen during center time? It's kind of like that. There is a sense of accomplishment that is hard to duplicate after you've cooked up a nice scrambled egg/hash brown breakfast for the family. (Okay, part of the accomplishment is that everyone is so hungry that they'll eat whatever you make without a complaint) Suddenly, the work around the campsite to be done seems like fun even for the kids. A child that whines about cleaning his room at home happily helps set up the tent and eagerly goes to bed with a flashlight and book in hand. Of course another big allure of camping is getting to be one with nature. Nothing compares to sleeping under the stars and hearing the cicadas sing all night long. Hiking to a hidden waterfall or fishing on the end of a dock brings a feeling of peace and relaxation that will have you longing for the next trip while you're on your way home. Camping is like a mini-adventure every time you go. With so many variables like weather, terrain and wild animals there's bound to be something unique to remember about your outing. Certainly, there have been many memories for us. With 17 years of camping behind us, we look back and see that many milestones were shared with the great outdoors. I'll be posting some of our favorite camping stories over the next couple of months. Maybe one will bring back some memories of your own or inspire you to begin making them.

I remember that photo! There were so many cousins tucked into that tent. =) Didn't one of the kids get lost? Only to be found in that very tent, asleep? Everyone was searching and calling... and they slept right through it all. I have a very dear place in my heart for camping. David and I have camped together a few times in Fort Davis. The last time we ended up getting drenched. We went out for supplies or something in the car, and the tire went flat. We were bickering about how to change the tire when out of no where an intense (but short) rainstorm soaked us right through. Afterwards we were very giggly, having our thirsty tempers quenched so completely. ;)

I very much look forward to your camping stories.

LOL!!! I didn't even remember that incident! I'll ask John if he remembers tonight. How funny! It would have had to be someone young like Eric or maybe Alexandra if she was there. Your Dad might remember too. See, you never know where memories will unfold!

John says it was Ashliegh. Bless her heart, I bet Eric & Sharon needed a sedative after scare like that!

I thought it might have been either Ashleigh or Alex... but I couldn't remember... =) I miss those kinds of family reunions.

I remember that tent full of cousins-I can't believe how much they've all grown since then!

Oh, I know! I look at that photo of Lindsey and although she still has the same smile, EVERYTHING else is different. It's really very shocking.

Man. I miss all of my cousins.
